Anyone have luck growing apricots in Perry? I would like to plant a couple of apricot trees and sell apricots at the farmers market if I can be successful at growing them. Thanks.

PostSubject: UF says Apricots not well-adapted to Florida    Sat Mar 26, 2011 1:58 pm

According to http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/mg211 at University of Florida....

Peaches, nectarines, and plums are called stone, or drupe, fruits because they consist of a seed enclosed in a heavy pit or stone, surrounded by soft flesh. Certain cultivars of these fruits can be grown successfully in Florida.

Other stone fruits, such as apricots, almonds, and cherries are not well-adapted to Florida and should not be planted here. The various stone fruits are closely related, all being different species within the same genus, Prunus.
But hey - if someone has had success I'm sure we'd all love to know about it!
